YoliAlto was born into music. She grew up with a father who was a composer of Spanish Music; a mother who loved poetry; and a grandmother who taught piano. This Singer/Songstress is a graduate of the High School of Music & Art in New York. Some of her songs, including OLD SWEATER, have been compared to the style of Laura Nyro. Her stage name was coined by a dear friend who would call her Ms. Alto referring to the sometimes “guttural,” sometimes smoky voice that interprets the songs she has written. She has performed at the Red Bank Jazz Festival and having been chosen to compete in several of the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation’s Blues Competitions. She has performed in various venues throughout the tri-state area.. This Cuba-Rican (as she refers to her ethnic origins) describes her music as Jazz & Blues, blended with Latin Flavor. She has written over 100 songs.
