Yolanda Torres

Yolanda Torres, Director of our Spanish Division, began writing poetry and prose in her teens. Raised in a home with a mother who loved and recited poetry and a father who was a composer of Spanish music,Yolanda inherited a love for the creative art of writing. She has read her poetry in a variety of venues, performing with The Traveling Poets Society, as well as with Poetry Without Borders and the Ocean County Artist’s Guild, among others. In addition to the poetry and prose she has contributed here, she is also a songwriter and performs under the stage name of YoliAlto. You will soon be able to find her music under our Music Division. Believing in the healing power of creative expression, she has read her works at programs designed to assist those in recovery and/or abusive relationships. In addition, Yolanda has used her poetry to inspire others in workshops that included reflection and Equine Assisted Exercises in a program called Writing With Horses. Her poem Love Is Simply Horseplay received kudos in an article in the Asbury Park Press in 2006. She writes her poetry in both English and Spanish. She is also a fine jazz artist and songwriter.
